"If" The overall theme is leadership, the speaker is teaching his child what it takes to become a man. The theme is developed by it setting out to teach and instruct. "Can't" is trying to teach self doubt holds back the common man. Self doubt degrades a man mind making him think somethings impossible when it isn't. Each poem shares that theme and tries to teach you not to give into self doubt.
