Figurative language involves the use of figures of speech to add color, clarity and emphasis in a story or writing in general. Types of figurative language involve:
1. Metaphors and similes- to draw parallels and compare two similar ideas
2. Alliteration- to grab a reader's attention
3. Repetition of words of sentences- for emphasis
4. Onomatopoeia- to make the writing more engaging
5. Hyperbole- to create a dramatic effect
