A cell is in isotonic
condition when solute concentrations inside and outside the cell are equal.
If there is low concentration on the outside of the cell, then this situation
is known as hypotonic and this will result in the cell bursting. If the
concentration of the solute outside the cell is high, then this situation is
known as hypertonic and in all probability the cell will ultimately sink under
this condition. These are the three kinds of conditions that can occur.
