Again I was faced with choices I did not like, but I finally agreed. After all, my hate for my father was not so great and urgent as my hate for the orphan home. My mother held to her idea and one night a week or so later I found myself standing in a room in a frame house. My father and a strange woman were sitting before a bright fire that blazed in a grate. My mother and I were standing about six feet away, as though we were afraid to approach them any closer.

The narrator says that he had a lot of choices that were difficult to make, but he finally made the decision to leave the orphanage even though it was a tough choice. When he says that "After all, my hate for my father was not so great and urgent as my hate for the orphan home" he shows that he hates living in the orphanage so much that he is willing to face his father just to get out. 

The most difficult or complex choice that wright explains in given in option (a): "willing to do anything to leave the orphanage."

The narrator claims that he faced numerous difficult options before deciding to leave the orphanage, despite the fact that it was a difficult decision.

When he adds, "After all, my hatred for my father was not as deep and urgent as my hatred for the institution," he is implying that he despises life in the orphanage so much that he is willing to face his father in order to get out.
