The colonists (patriots) thought that stamp act was proposed only to gain a revenue for Britain's war debt and their own goods.Printed materials such as newspapers, magazines, books, licenses, etc were taxed.
In the mid-17th
century of Britain, the Navigation Acts was established. These acts was made
mainly for safeguarding English shipping, and ensuring profit from the colonies.
The British Government added many taxes such as Tea Act, Quartering Act, Stamp
Act, etc. without allowing the participation of the Thirteen colonies. The
Patriots point of view was that the British government added the Stamp tax so
that all printed materials with stamps have taxes while the point of view of
the Loyalists is that they believe that this will only add another money or
income to the partriots and the British crown making them more superior that
the rest of the colony.
