Liquid molecules
generally have spaces in between them. Molecules in liquids move freely
compared to solid molecules. When a liquid turns into a solid its molecules
organize in a specific arrangement that take up more space. This freezing process
makes molecules act closer together forming a compact solid structure. It is
important to note that the number of molecules in solid water is still the same;
the order in which they are arranged only differs. Due to this solid water
becomes less dense than liquid water.
