Order of operations is PEMDAS (parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction)

= (52 + 6) - (7 * 4) + 8
work inside parentheses first
= 58 - 28 + 8
work left to right now
= 30 + 8
= 38

SONYA'S MISTAKE
= (52 + 6) - (7 * 4) + 8
I think she added the 52, 6+4, multiplied 7*4 to equal 28, then added the 6+8 to equal 14
= 52 + 28 + 14 + 10
= 104

ANSWER: 38
