The nuclear force is a strong force. Strong enough to overcome the repulsive force of the protons in the nucleus.
The nucleus contains protons and neutrons. The proton is positively charged and thus gives the nucleus an overall positive charge.
Like charges repel. Thus, the protons in the nucleus are supposed to be repelling each other, making the nucleus to be unstable.
However, the strong nuclear force holds the protons in place and gives the nucleus some stability.
