Congress passed an act preventing Chinese labourers from entering the country.
The opposition toward Chinese immigration was so intense that, in 1882, the United States Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act, which banned immigration from China for the next ten years, and this was extended by the Geary Act in 1892. The Act was made in order to exclude specifically Chinese people from migration.
