Mengele took his turn as the selector on the ramp, but unlike most of the other selectors, he arrived sober. With a small flick of his finger or riding crop, a person would either be sent to the left or to the right, to the gas chamber or to hard labor. Mengele would get very excited when he found twins. The other SS officers who helped unload the transports had been given special instructions to find twins, dwarfs, giants or anyone else with a unique hereditary trait like a club foot. After the twins had been taken from their parents, they were taken to the showers. Since they were "Mengele's children," they were treated differently than other prisoners. Though they suffered through medical experiments, the twins were often allowed to keep their hair and allowed to keep their own clothes.

Hope this helps

Explanation:

He got excited by twins and would get as many of them as possible. While he also took anyone who had a odd genetic thing, twins were his favorite. because they were Mengele's, they were treated differently then other prisoners. they were given better food, they could keep their hair, and they were given nicer beds, but they went through terrible experiments. what would happen, normally, was one twin would be experimented on with illnesses and surguries or how long they could survive at certain tempuratures while the other twin was the control of the experiment. when one twin died, the other twin was murdered and disected to see if the twins were identical on the inside too. there was one set of twins that mengele sewed together to create fused twins. they, sadly, died soon after. His rational for these experiments was how he was looking for the genetic reason for how to make more twins so more aryan twins were born.
