Respuesta :

usually, the fuel pump turns on, along with all of the vehicle's electric systems, but on a large diesel engine, like in a semi, or agricultural equipment, the intake, and carburetor are activated first to allow diesel (fuel) into the engine to combustion can be produced once the engine turns over

Intake stroke occurs just before ignition in an internal combustion engine.

What is internal combustion engine?

In an internal combustion engine, the ignition and combustion of the fuel happens within the engine itself. The engine then partially converts the energy from the combustion to work. The engine consists of a fixed cylinder and a moving piston. It has four strokes namely

  1. Intake: In this stroke, air fuel mixture enters the combustion cylinder in case of petrol engines and just air in case of diesel engines.
  2. Compression: In this stroke, the air fuel mixture is compressed and ignited at the end of the stroke in case of petrol engines. In diesel engines the air is compressed and at the end of the stroke diesel enters the combustion chamber.
  3. Power: During this stroke, the piston receives work. The gases expand and force the piston in the downward direction.
  4. Exhaust: In this stroke, the burnt gases are let out through the exhaust valve.

What is External combustion engine?

An engine where motive power is generated by providing the heat to the fluid present inside the engine from the external source. Here combustion of the fuel is not inside the engine.

Hence, Intake stroke is the first stage in an internal combustion engine.
