Chloroplast and mitochondria have their own DNA. They can produce energy and synthesise their own protein. The chloroplast helps in photosynthesis while mitochondria perform cellular respiration. Cellular respiration is the reverse of photosynthesis. In photosynthesis, chloroplast uses water, carbon dioxide, sunlight to produce glucose, oxygen.  But in cellular respiration, mitochondria break down the glucose with help of oxygen and produce energy in the form of ATP, carbon dioxide and water. The energy is used by body tissues, and carbon dioxide is expelled out of the animal body.
