Hello!

You can solve this using the Pythagorean Theorem.

The Pythagorean Theorem is [tex] a^{2} + b^{2} = c^{2} [/tex]

c is the hypotenuse
a and b are the other sides

Put in the values we know

[tex] a^{2} + 6^{2} = 11.7^{2} [/tex]

Square the numbers

[tex] a^{2} +36 = 136.89[/tex]

Subtract 36 from both sides

[tex] a^{2} =100.89[/tex]

Take the square root of both sides

a = 10.044

Round to the nearest thenth

a = 10

The answer is 10

Hope this helps!
