Ovulation is the stage in which the eggs are being release from the ovaries. The follicles then rupture releasing the secondary oocytes. The luteal phase follows in which the egg is now ready to be fertilize by the sperm. If no fertilization happens, the uterine lining or endometrium which is the site of lh and fsh will shed thus menstruation happens.

The corpus luteum is produced by the ruptured follicle after ovulation. Subsequent the process of ovulation, the pituitary hormones which are FSH and LH prompt the halting portions of the principal follicle to modify into the corpus luteum. It proceeds to develop for any interval later ovulation and generates meaningful values of hormones, especially progesterone and to a minor degree is estrogen.
