Activism is very often attributed to positive political or social change. This, however, is not always accurate. In my opinion, though, activism is changing the way society views or treats certain things. Activists speak out for the things they believe in and show people a new way of thinking. They are the catalyst for awareness in the status quo. They push people to take on new perspectives and step into other's shoes. Activism pushes societal boundaries and challenges opposition on a daily basis. It sparks movements that will ultimately benefit all of society, whether we see the change happen immediately or whether it has a long term effect. Activism is the key component that makes our nation a democratic society.
