The numbers on this map represent the number of electoral votes each state had in the year of 2000. The number of votes depends on the amount of representatives the state has in the House and the number of Senators each state has (2) combined. The electoral college is not revealed until December 14 when they officially vote. A winning candidate must win 270 or more electoral votes to become the President of the United States.
