Respuesta :
A toad egg cell would contain 11 chromosomes if there are 22 chromosomes in the nucleus of its skin.
HOW DO EGG (GAMETES) FORM:
- Egg is a gamete or sex cell formed by the female reproductive organ (ovary) of an organism. Gametes are formed as a result of a division process called MEIOSIS.
- Meiosis is a division process whereby a single cell gives rise to four genetically different daughter cells which have their chromosomal number reduced by half i.e. from diploid (2n) to haploid (n).
- This means that if a toad contains 22 somatic chromosomes (in its skin), it would undergo meiosis to produce eggs. Each egg will therefore, contain half of its original chromosome number. That is; 22/2 = 11 chromosomes.
Hence, a toad egg cell would contain 11 chromosomes if there are 22 chromosomes in the nucleus of its skin.
